Kansas City Missouri Temple Cultural Celebration

The day has finally arrived! Our youth (all 3000 of them) from the 12 Stake Temple District participated in this once in a lifetime event. Our Temple is complete and dedicated for the work of the Lord. Meeting time was 5:30a at the church for the kids and they were transported up to the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium. They were in rehearsal all day. The rest of us decided to head downtown to our awesome KC Power & Light District for dinner. Out of all the dining options we had we picked Fran's Restaurant. It was SO GOOD. I had the Deluxe BLT and literally it is THE BEST BLT I have ever had. I think we need to go back pretty soon. Took some pictures around town. The Marriott Hotel is really awesome at night as the whole side of the building lights up all night long. Our Kaufmann Center for  the Performing Arts is our newest addition and it is just cool looking. Now the four pylons on top of Bartle Hall is still a mystery to me. No one can tell me what the artist wanted to portray with each different top.

After dinner we headed over to the auditorium. The doors opened at 4:30 but we thought if we were there at 4 then we'd get in pretty quickly. Not so much. The line went from the main front door on the North side of the building, all the way around to the back door on the South side. Good thing my friend Karen was already inside so she saved us seats. We were on the 3rd row from the floor directly across from where President Monson was sitting. What a joy and priviledge to have him here in KC!

The program consisted of dances from the 12 Stakes in the district. In Kansas they are Lenexa, Olathe, Salina and Topeka. In Missouri they are Independence, Joplin, Kansas City, Liberty, Platte City, Springfield, Springfield South and Warrensburg. By far I think the most heart renching performance was Joplin.

At one point they had a lot of the missionaries come out from our Independence MO Mission. It was great to see all those young men and women doing the work of the Lord.

I hope Savannah remembers this once in a lifetime event for the rest of her life. Our Temple was dedicated Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 9:00am.

MT Drill Team Banquet

Last night was the drill team Awards Banquet. They had lots of yummy food and each of the girls recieved an award for something they were outstanding in. Savannah recieved The Most Improved Award at which she felt really bad about. I think it was awesome especially for someone who has not had dance or gymnastic classes for her entire life. A lot of these girls have been dancing since they were 2. But Savannah stuck right in there, went out on a limb and tried out for the team and made it. That is quite an accomplishment. Night ended with a great video of all the girls and their activities and performances clear back from Drill Team Summer Camp last year. It was a fun night. They also received a necklace with the Timberwolf on one side and a charm about dance hooked to it.

CCE Celebration of Learning Concert

Haylie is a member of the Comet Chorus that meets two days a week in the morning 30 minutes before school starts. What a motivated group of kids! They participated in the concert this past week along with the school orchestra and band. It was kind of hard to see Haylie all the time as she is smack dab in the middle in front of her choir director.

CCE Siyahamba

A South African Folk Song....

CCE Dona Dona

A couple of soloists. Not my favorite tune.

CCE Shake the Papaya Down

Take a trip to the Caribbean.

CCE Music Alone Shall Live

This is a song from Germany which they sing in German first and then in English.

CCE Dancin' on the Rooftop

This is the finale and favorite song the kids like.

MT Spring Dance Show - Dynamite

Savannah had her big drill team Spring Show. They all did a fabulous job. There were 27 routines of which Savannah was in 8 of them. They had the cheerleaders do some stuff and each of the girls performed a routine they choreographed themselves. A couple of the school talent show entries performed and then the guys group "Wolf Pack" did a great dance. It was a fun night. Savannah made it into the 2012-2013 drill team so we look forward to more performances next year!

MT Old Skool

And what would a dance show be without some hip hop?

MT Like 'Em All Remix

Each girl had to come up with their own dance with another friend. This is the one Savannah and Kirsten choreagraphed themselves. They did a great job!

MT Wolf Pack

Savannah asked her good friend Jayden to participate in the guys' dance but for some reason he wasn't there that night. Lookin' good guys!

MT Party Rock Anthem

This is my absolute favorite routine they do....

MT Getting Over You

Out of the entire 2011-2012 Drill Team Savannah and these other three girls were the only 7th graders. Congratulations to all four of them for making the 2012-2013 Drill Team. Way to go girls!

MT I Hope You Dance

I'm not much for the slower dances, but this is Savannah's favorite I think.

MT I'll Never Be The Same

This is my second favorite routine....

MT Footloose

And the Finale.....
